The human circulatory system
Circulatory means 'going round in a circle' and that is exactly what the blood in your body does. The same blood keeps moving round. To make it move it needs a pump and this is called the heart.

To see the effect of exercise on the heart move the slider to the right.
To see what happens when you rest move the slider to the left.

The blood needs something to travel through, you can think of these as tubes, but their correct name is blood vessels. The heart pumps the blood into large vessels called arteries. Arteries divide into very small vessels called capillaries. Capillaries join back together to form veins. Veins take the blood back to the heart where the circulation starts again.
